So maybe things won't change?

Hi guys! A few days ago I created another blog on Wordpress for photography. Which means...*drumroll please*...I can keep swatching and posting nail polish on this blog! I can also keep doing my usual blogging as in recipes, food, Charlie, etc. I will be posting very routinely on both of them. I might even get into a schedule such as one post here, one post on the other, etc. The photography blog's url is as follows: maddieshen.wordpress.com. If you could check it out and / or comment and / or follow it, that would be fantastic. Thanks you guys! More of my regular posts to come! (I might be cleaning out my swatches on my computer in the near future too.)

Hiatuses are gross.

So hi. And how long has it been since I've posted? Years. Err, it's felt like years. If you've noticed (or haven't noticed), I've been pretty busy on my Instagram account, @maddieshen. And my flickr account. Link is in my Instagram bio. And I haven't been painting my nails at all. Which makes me feel bad but hey, it's hard trying to be social and paint your nails and blog when you have a busy school life. The reason why I'm posting here today? I keep getting emails saying people are regularly visiting my blog. Which is weird because I haven't been posting at all. So I feel bad. Guilty right here. Anyway, I'll leave this update with a few bullet points.
  • I probably won't be posting much about nail polish anymore. I'm sorry really. I love dearly the nail polish community that has accepted me, and there might be some nails of the day here and there, but overall this blog is not going to stay a polish blog.
  • I like photography, and this blog might soon turn into a photography blog. (Photography does include nail polish pictures! Just not all the time.)
  • I'll start posting more regularly. I like blogging, I really do, and when summer comes around this'll be my haven.
  • Guys, thanks for reading this blog. I truly love having readers.
  • And please check out my Instagram? @maddieshen. If you comment you read my blog on one of my pictures, I'll follow you back. :)
You guys are the best. See you in the next post!

Orly Velvet Rope

I have to admit, I feel like I'm starting over with this blog. I've gone on so many breaks and hiatuses that I don't even feel like a blogger anymore. But here's an update nevertheless: I went on a school camping trip a week ago and got back yesterday. I told myself before the trip that I'd start painting my nails again right after. And that's what I did as soon as I arrived home. I'm so glad I didn't lose all of my ability to paint my own nails. Unfortunately, I completely wrecked my cuticles on the trip because of the lack of humidity there and my own pure laziness. Oh well. Also, my family recently bought a very nice Nikon D5200 camera and I absolutely love it. The pictures are great. And I started uploading my pictures to Flickr instead of blogger. More of a pain, but worth it.

Basically, I lied to you guys when I posted about how I was going to blog again. But no more lying. I'm back, better than ever, with more equipment, more writing abilities, and more material. Let's see my swatch and review.

Orly Velvet Rope

Look at that silver glitter. So much love in one bottle.

It looks like a mini galaxy in a bottle to me.

Okay, my cuticles look pretty special. And not in the good way. But the polish definitely helps distract the eyes. Especially because the purple looks like velvet. No wonder they named it "Velvet Rope"!

Formula was great. I almost always don't have a problem with Orly.

This is base coat, two coats polish, and top coat.

The silver glitter makes the polish dry a little bumpy, but top coat smooths it over.

Ah, that silver glitter.

Hope you liked my first swatch and review in a little while! Maybe one day you'll pass by a bottle, pick it up, and think, "Hey, this looks like a tiny universe for my nails!"

kisses, maddie

Happy Chinese New Year!

Today is Chinese New Year and the first day of the Year of the Snake! Unfortunately, I'm spending today working on an Atomic Timeline for school. Not exactly what you'd call festivities. But hey, the Grammys are on tonight, and I will paint my nails with some pretty polishes from Urban Outfitters I received as a gift. (I haven't worn polish in a few weeks. Shh, don't tell. I feel guilty.) Here's a picture of my countertop and the polishes.

What will you be doing for Chinese New Year's? Are you watching the Grammys?

Instagram on Maddie Channel

There's this thing called Instagram. I happen to have an account. And I happen to take pictures of my life quite frequently. I just installed a widget on the sidebar under the "Follow Me on Instagram". Maybe you should check it out once in a while because I tend to update that one more regularly. Have a great weekend!

P.S. My username is @maddieshen.

Charlie Gif!

I made Charlie into a gif! You can view it under the "Contact Me" section of the sidebar. Here are the pictures I used in the gif; the quality is so much better in these photos:

(P.S. I rented a very nice camera for this weekend because I had a photography class. That's why the pictures are more high quality than usual!)

The Blogging Blues Are No More

It's hard being a human. Especially when you have many hobbies and things to do. For example, in an hour I must go meet with people. Tomorrow I have to swim a meet. Wednesday there's homework due. The list goes on and on. One of my hobbies has always been blogging. But lately I've been uninspired. I've come down with the almost-100-followers blues. A common illness for newbie bloggers. But I'm no newbie blogger. I told myself to persevere And so that's why I'm typing this post today, to show you that I'm not going to give up on this wonderful world of blogging.

Get excited. I know that's what I said last time, but I mean it this time. Get excited. I'm ready for a new year of blogging with you guys. :)

XOXO M
